The HEAL Lab attends AAHB 2023
Explore the highlights of the HEAL Lab's participation in the 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting, held from March 12-15 in San Francisco, CA. Our undergraduate student, Indira D'Souza, presented a research abstract on "COVID mitigation strategies associated with better physical activity and diet in a cohort of pregnant people with overweight and obesity: Findings from a racially/ethnically diverse sample" during the Research Lightning Talk sessions. Her conclusions shed light on the healthier behaviors exhibited by pregnant participants of color with overweight or obesity. Notably, she emphasized that rising maternal mortality rates in the United States are not due to a lack of healthy behaviors, underscoring the importance of policy solutions addressing structural determinants like fair wages, housing access, and universal paid parental leave.
Aligned with the meeting's theme, "The science of identities: measurement & methods for translational health behavior research," the HEAL Lab contributed valuable insights into understanding and improving health behaviors. In addition to Indira's presentation, Nikita Satish and Stephanie Ha showcased their research posters during the poster sessions, further enriching the dialogue on advancing measurement and methods in translational health behavior research.
Amidst these engaging sessions, the HEAL Lab also found time to network and bond as a team, fostering a collaborative spirit that strengthens our commitment to impactful research.
