Bio

Hi! My name is Indira, and I am a 2nd-year undergraduate student majoring in Global Disease Biology with minors in Human Rights and Political Science. I have worked with Dr. Jen Phipps and Sharon Tafolla on mapping many sources of data regarding child and family health variables in the Yolo County region. We looked for gaps in data and engaged the community through focus groups to see where we can direct future research efforts. I also helped with the literature review for the POD Center’s series of papers on COVID-19 and pregnancy. My most recent project was a partnership with the CA Department of Public Health, where I conducted literature reviews to help update the Interconception Health Guidelines for primary care physicians and postpartum women. My research interests include public health, causal agents of health disparities, and women’s reproductive healthcare. My career goal is to work at the intersection of health equity, policy, and human rights. I currently work as a Peer Advisor for the GDB Major on campus. I do additional research with the Social Environment and Stress Lab at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain, and I am involved with student organizations such as R.I.V.E.R., Students for Reproductive Freedom, and Joan Viteri Memorial Clinic.
